Artistic Holiday Decorations Project
The holidays are the time to show off your artistic skills with handmade holiday decorations. Skip the typical store-bought accoutrements, instead adorn your mantle with your own handcrafted decoration project. To get you started, here are a couple of ideas:
They say no two snowflakes are alike, which gives us infinite possibilities when it comes to snowflake art. A festive way to decorate with snowflakes, is to cut ornate designs out of frosted contact paper or vinyl. Create flurries of fun by using multiple snowflakes to make wall collages or window scenes.

Reminisce on your childhood with clay art! Start with a simple dough: 1/2 cup cornstarch, 1 cup baking soda, 3/4 cup water. Mix the ingredients in a pot and stir over low heat until thick. Then allow it to cool enough to be handled. Knead the dough adding a little extra cornstarch if sticky. Then let your artistic inner child go wild. Create as you would with clay. When finished, allow pieces to dry in 175 degree oven for about an hour, flipping them over halfway through.

Creating holiday decorations with newspaper is a great way to reuse something you may already have laying around the house. Simply cut leaf shapes from newspaper pages. Add color by painting the leaves opaquely with acrylic paint. After the leaves are dried, string them together on twine or ribbon to make a garland perfect for the mantle or doorframes.
